Perhaps you’ve heard of a tree called the red bud. In spring time they’re typically covered in beautiful pink blossoms – a most welcome sight for sore winter eyes.
So it was with great anticipation that I cased the small tree in my back yard a few weeks ago. Every couple of days I’d venture out to see if there were any signs of life.
Everything else was starting to sprout leafy buds. Except the stupid red bud tree. So I came to the very sad conclusion that it must be dead.
In an effort to placate me, J snapped off a twig to see if he could see any signs of life on the inside. He could. So I waited.
Finally, one precious day I spotted a reddish bud on a limb. And soon after, the tiny furled leaves appeared. But no other red buds. None.
So there it stands, my little tree in the back yard. Green leaves and a single pink blossom.
